Paddle Scotland are looking for passionate and committed volunteers to join our Discipline Development Groups. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, keep reading and apply below!
What are Discipline Development Groups?
The Discipline Development Groups were created to oversee and develop various racing and recreational disciplines across paddlesport in Scotland. The aim of the groups is to support the development of each discipline, creating equal opportunities for everyone to participate in activities and achieve their goals.
We are currently recruiting volunteers across the following groups:
Group Structure
Each group consists of up to 9 members, who must be current members of Paddle Scotland. To maintain strong governance and support activities, the groups have a clear governance structure, with named roles requiring specific training. Support will be provided by Paddle Scotland to assist members to gain the relevant credentials:
- Chair: Leads the group, chairs meetings, and acts as the strategic liaison with Paddle Scotland.
- Secretary: Manages agendas, records minutes, and monitors the group’s official email account.
- Treasurer: Manages the group's budget and coordinates monthly income and expenditure projections where appropriate.
- Safeguarding Officer: Promotes welfare and supports the safeguarding processes of the group/
- Event Safety Officer: Reviews risk assessments, safety plans, and supports safe event delivery.
- General Members: Provides additional support tailored to the specific needs and priorities of each discipline committee.
Who Are We Looking For?
We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, you don't need expertise across every area! Our goal is to build a well-rounded team with a variety of skillsets, such as:
- A strong passion for paddlesports and a desire to grow paddlesport in Scotland,
- Strong organisational and communication skills,
- A commitment to upholding Paddle Scotland’s safeguarding and safety standards and,
- Skills in event planning, financial management, or volunteer coordination.
What can I Expect if I Apply?
If you choose to apply for a position within your discipline’s development group, you will be appointed for a rolling 3-year term, with groups typically meeting online or in person two to four times a year.
All appointed volunteers are expected to complete the Paddle Scotland Volunteer eLearning and, if not already held, relevant safeguarding training within 3 months of their appointment. Paddle Scotland is committed to ensuring that our volunteers feel supported and appreciated, so guidance and support will be available for those who need it.
