Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport Course (CWPS) Pre-Course Information
Thanks for booking a place on the online Child Wellbeing and Protection in Sport course. Please read the information below, and ensure you complete Module 1 prior to the course.
NEXT STEPS
Completion of Module 1: As a learner you will be set up on Brightspace which is the sportscotland Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). This is where you access module 1. sportscotland admin team will enrol you onto the CWPS course you have booked then you will receive an email with a title along the lines of: sportscotland: Enrolment Confirmation from: d2lsupport@learninginsport.brightspace.com. The link will be sent approximately 2 weeks before module 2. If you're booking your place less than 2 weeks before the course, your Brightspace login will be sent to you approx 2-3 days before the course.
Please check your junk and spam folders as some email accounts filter this email out as it is auto generated. Your username will be the email address you used to register for the course.
PREPARING FOR MODULE 2 LIVE SESSION
We will send you the zoom joining instructions approximately 1 day before the webinar commences. Again, please check spam if you have not received it. We utilise the Zoom platform for this webinar so you may wish to familiarise yourself with the settings and download the desktop client to your Windows or Mac computer. See here for more information.
We kindly ask that all participants are on camera to support the learning experience and environment.
Participating on a mobile phone is not permitted. Please be in a quiet location with a suitably large screen to see the learning content and engage in the breakout rooms.

If there is anything we can do so support the learning experience for you, please get in touch in advance.
During the course we will also make use of some course materials - see the link below to download this ahead of the course. There is no need to look at these in advance but we recommend you have them ready on your device, or ideally on a separate device (e.g. a tablet/phone) for easy reference whilst the zoom platform is on your main device.
Please ensure you connect a little in advance of the start time as we will aim to start promptly.
No latecomers will be admitted 5 minutes after the course commences.
AFTER MODULE 2 LIVE SESSION
After completion of Module 2, please log back into learning to download your certificate. There is no need to send this to Paddle Scotland as we will automatically update your record.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anyone 16 years and over who are in regulated work, delivering or leading sporting activities with children under 18. This meets the minimum requirement for Coaches and Leaders required for Update status.
Module 1
Module 1 is an elearning completed in your own time prior to Module 2 live session.
After precourse module 1 you will be able to:
- Understand what is meant by ‘child wellbeing and protection’
- Recognise the value of a child-centred approach to child wellbeing and Protection
- Identify good practice in relation to child wellbeing and protection and how this impacts the sports environment
- Recognise the legislative and policy framework around child wellbeing and protection
- Identify and respond to possible child wellbeing or protection concerns
- Identify the limits of your safeguarding role and know when to get support
Module 2
Module 2 is a 3 hour 'live' training course lead by one of sportscotland’s approved tutors. It can be delivered online or face-to-face in a classroom. Learners must complete both modules to gain the qualification and receive their certificate.
By the end of module 2 learners will:
- Be introduced to the Spectrum of Practice and use it to consider, evaluate and respond to common coaching scenarios.
- Receive an introduction to the factors that create a culture of poor practice
- Identify barriers to disclosure
- Cover the process for responding to concerns.
- Put the responding to concerns process into practice to deal with serval complex cases.
