Paddle Scotland has appointed Nigel Donohue to lead an independent review of the Talent Pathway in Scotland as part of our commitment to supporting talented Scottish athletes to achieve their potential.
The purpose of the review is to increase alignment and support across the pathway from club paddling to the Paddle UK World Class Programme, and will put athletes at the centre of the process.
The review will focus on the Olympic Disciplines but there is likely to be wider learning for Paddle Scotland and Scottish paddlesport. Our intention is to positively improve how we support and develop talent moving forward.
Nigel Donohue has a wealth of Performance experience, attending nine Olympic and Paralympic Games as an Athlete, Coach and Performance Director, and delivering multiple medals.
Importantly for this process, Nigel also brings experience working in and with clubs to create the foundation of athlete development, has demonstrated a strategic and long-term view of developing talent pathways and has experience working in the Scottish Performance system. He brings the ability to combine his coaching expertise with strategic planning, data analysis and stakeholder engagement which will all be critical in this process.
The Review will be commencing with immediate effect and Nigel will be targeting conversations with clubs, athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents and staff, as well as with key stakeholders such as Paddle UK and sportscotland over the coming weeks.
