Disciplinary Outcomes

Our Commitment to Safe Paddling

Paddle Scotland is committed to ensuring that paddling remains safe, fair and respectful for everyone. When concerns lead to a formal disciplinary process, we publish the outcomes here so our community can see what actions have been taken and why. This supports transparency, reinforces expected standards, and helps clubs and paddlesport providers apply sanctions consistently across the sport.

We only publish information that is necessary for this purpose. Personal or sensitive details that are not directly related to the disciplinary decision are not shared.

When We Publish Disciplinary Outcomes

Paddle Scotland publishes disciplinary outcomes when it is proportionate, justified and in the public interest. We do this only after a formal process has concluded and a sanction is confirmed, and only when sharing the outcome is necessary to support safe participation and consistent enforcement across the sport.

What We Publish

To support safe participation and consistent enforcement of sanctions, Paddle Scotland publishes:

  • Name of the individual
  • The disciplinary decision
  • Any sanctions or restrictions applied
  • The duration of the sanction
  • A brief summary of the rule breach or issue

We do not publish wellbeing information, personal background, or any details that are not essential to understanding the disciplinary outcome.

We do not publish details of any temporary precautionary suspension. These measures are neutral, protective steps used during an ongoing disciplinary process to safeguard the privacy of everyone involved and to protect the integrity of the process.

This page will be monitored regularly to ensure that information is accurate.  When a sanction against an individual ends, the details will be removed so that no one is listed beyond the period of an active sanction.

Learning Publications

In some cases, Paddle Scotland may publish anonymised learning where an investigation identifies issues relevant to the wider sport. This may include situations where an investigation concludes after an individual’s death and disciplinary action is not possible. In these circumstances, Paddle Scotland may publish an anonymised summary to acknowledge the outcome and share key learning points that support safe practice across paddlesport.

Learning publications do not name individuals and do not include disciplinary sanctions.

Why We Publish

Publishing disciplinary outcomes helps:

  • maintain transparency across the sport
  • ensure sanctions are applied consistently
  • reinforce expected standards of behaviour
  • support clubs, paddlesport providers and volunteers in safeguarding participants
  • build trust that concerns are handled properly and fairly

This approach aligns with recognised practice across UK sport and supports Paddle Scotland’s responsibility to promote safe participation.
