2026 Slalom & Kayak Cross teams announced

Last week, the Paddle UK International Panel announced the team selected following the recent Canoe Slalom and Kayak Cross selection series.

The selection follows a competitive series made up of two weekends of racing, consisting of one day of kayak cross and three days of canoe slalom. The new season marks an important step in the LA 2028 Olympic cycle, with qualification beginning at the World Championships in Oklahoma.


Congratulations to everyone who competed over the weekend - with a special shout out to Helena Nabili of the Pinkston Panthers, a notable new selection to the Junior Kayak Cross and Slalom teams! Siblings Lois and Sam Leaver as well as Peter Linkstead have also been selected.

Senior Team


Ryan Westley will lead the way in men's canoe after being pre-selected due to his World Championship silver medal during the 2025 season.


He will be joined by Paris 2024 Olympic silver medallist Adam Burgess, with Peter Linkstead completing the trio.


In the women's category, Mallory Edwards returns to the international stage in C1, along with Kimberley Woods and Ellis Miller.


Men's K1 sees Joe Clarke in the top boat, followed by Sam Leaver and Ben Haylett.


Kimberley Woods reprises her role in women's kayak, being preselected as a result of her silver medal at the 2025 World Championships. She will be joined by Lois Leaver and Bethan Forrow.


In line with the selection policy, Mallory Edwards will be given the opportunity to compete at the 2026 European Championships in WK1, subject to meeting the required performance standard, with Bethan Forrow stepping aside as the third boat.


U23 Team


The U23 team sees strength across all categories, with Luc Royle, Edward McDonald and William Mayer selected in the men's canoe.


In the men's kayak, Sam Leaver, Jonah Hanrahan and Thomas Mayer have been named following consistent performances across the selection series.


The women's canoe team includes Zoe Blythe-Shields, Rachel Ellis and Joanna Blythe-Shields, while Sofia Alfer, Tazmin Brown and Macy Kang will represent the team in the women's kayak.


Junior Team


In the junior ranks, Sid Griffiths, Lewis Arden and Alex Cleator have been selected in the men's canoe, with Sid Griffiths, Alex Cleator also named in the men's kayak alongside Jake Mitchell.


The women's canoe team features Sophie Forster, Darcey McMullins and Jasmine Wilde, while Helena Nabili, Olwen Yates and Jasmine Wilde will compete in the women's kayak.


Kayak Cross


Senior Team


The senior kayak cross team is headlined by four-time world champion Joe Clarke, alongside Olympic bronze medallist Kimberley Woods, as the pair lead a strong British line-up into the international season.

Clarke is joined by Sam Leaver and Ben Haylett in the men's event.


In the women's event, Woods, Lois Leaver and Nikita Setchell have been named.


In line with the selection policy, Mallory Edwards will be given the opportunity to compete at the 2026 European Championships, subject to meeting the required performance standard, with Nikita Setchell stepping aside as the third boat.


U23 Team


The U23 kayak cross team includes Sam Leaver, Thomas Mayer and Jonah Hanrahan in the men's event.


In the women's race, Macy Kang, Joely Walling and Katie Shattock have been selected.


Junior Team


At junior level, Jake Mitchell, Sid Griffiths and Leo Miller lead the men's kayak cross team.


The women's team features Olwen Yates, Helena Nabili and Darcey McMullins.
