Questions & Answers
Lease Management Group
As part of the new lease arrangements, a new lease management group has been formed comprising representatives from Paddle Scotland, Grandtully and Strathtay Community Council and landowner. The purpose of this group is to work together to ensure that the use of the leased area is in accordance with the terms of the Lease Agreement and with good estate management in mind, and to liaise in respect of dates and sizes for events and competitions.
Organisers of events are requested to submit event plans ideally 6+ months ahead.
Grandtully Site Terms of Use
The Slalom Infrastructure at Grandtully may only be utilised by individuals who are registered with Paddle Scotland and follow this code of conduct.
All individuals using the site, including all paddlers, coaches and officials must:
- Have purchased a ‘Grandtully Daytime Pass with Slalom add on’ or be participating in an authorised Paddle Scotland event.
- Act in accordance with the Paddlers’ Code, Scottish Outdoor Access Code and all Scottish environmental legislation
- Be respectful of and considerate to other river users
- Park all vehicles at Grandtully Station Park unless otherwise directed by staff/volunteers who are managing authorised Paddle Scotland events. During such events you may be directed by event staff/volunteers to park in overflow parks that have been specifically organised to cope with the parking demand for the event.
- Always act in a way that will not disturb or cause concern or inconvenience to local residents and businesses
- Conduct a comprehensive risk assessment of planned activities and keep that under review based on factors including but not limited to the weather, the river level and other activities taking place on the river.
- At the end of every session lift the lines in case of rising water and move all gates to the riverbank, well away from the flow (recognising that the path of the flow changes when the river rises). Coaches and paddlers are responsible for ensuring this is done. Do not assume others will do it. If sharing the slalom infrastructure, clarify who will handle these tasks before you leave.
- Between sessions taking place on the same day, gates must be moved to the side of the river, out of the flow. However, between sessions on a given day the lines do not need to be raised unless the river is on the rise
All users must not:
- Make any adjustments to the river, change/damage any of the landscape etc
- Litter or discard any waste in or near the river or surrounding areas
- Damage any vegetation or wildlife
- Engage in any activities that could disturb or increase danger to other river users
Organisers of Club Training Sessions / Training Camps (Level 2 or 3 activities events) must

- Ensure all participants, officials and coaches ‘check in’ prior to utilising the facilities. This can be managed on an individual basis or by a club official checking in all participants together.
- Only permit paddlers and coaches who are competent in the environment to participate, based on current and predicted conditions
Organisers of
Level 4 or Level 5 events must:
- Communicate to all participants, officials and supporters of the event the code of conduct and the requirement to hold a Grandtully Pass if using any slalom infrastructure/gates outside of the days of the actual competition/event.
- Provide a list of all event participants within 3 days after the event and others who will utilise slalom site on the water in order to comply with the Check In requirement of the lease
- Carry out a site check at the end of each event to ensure the site is left in good condition and free of any litter or waste
- Only permit paddlers and coaches who are competent in the environment to participate, based on current and predicted conditions
- Report any breaches of the code of conduct to Paddle Scotland staff at the earliest opportunity
Organisers of Club Training Sessions / Training Camps / Event must not:
- Make any alterations to the site which breach the Scottish Outdoor Access Code or any laws of Scotland.
