SCA Women's Coach Development Programme - Funding Successful!
Earlier this year we applied to the National Lottery Community Fund for a grant to help us deliver a year-long coach development programme to support the development (and qualification) of a team of female paddlesport coaches in specific disciplines where women are under-represented.
Yesterday we were informed that we were successful and have enough funds to get the project rolling, with immediate effect!

As a first step we are looking for a small team to act as a project steering group to help us drive this project in the right direction. If you are passionate about supporting women to develop and progress their qualifications, please get in touch by emailing lara.cooper@canoescotland.org to let us know what you can bring to the steering group.
As a project steering group we’ll be asking you to:
- get involved in a few online meetings to drill into the specifics of the project
- help us set up the application process
- promote the project
- encourage and support women to apply
- help us select the lucky women who will get to join the project
- support the delivery of the project as it progresses
What is the SCA Women's Coach Development Programme?
It’s evolving; we’ll need our project steering group to help establish the specifics. However it will be based on an open application and recruitment process, followed by a programme that will include face-to-face support, community building activity, 1:1 practical coach developer support and ongoing support from a mentor. The mentor will support the coach as they work towards a specific qualification assessment as well as support them as active coaches within the wider paddling community.
Whilst primarily focused on a small team of 6-10 female coaches, the project also aims to provide significant opportunities for the continued development of other female coaches as well as the volunteers, coach developers, organisers and the women involved in the design, development, delivery and/or evaluation of the project. The project aims to enrich the female paddling workforce across multiple levels that are currently under-represented, and in doing so add depth and breadth to the female paddling community.
