SCA Director Elections and Appointments in 2021 - Finance Director and 2 x General Directors

The SCA is a membership organisation with a wide range of volunteers involved in running and overseeing all aspects of our sport. Each year there are opportunities for individuals to join the Board.

We actively seek an individual to take on the Finance Director role at this year’s AGM, as the current Finance Director reaches the end of their second three-year term and is ineligible to restand. In addition, two General Directors will be appointed.

All Directors require a degree of experience and expertise serving on boards and committees and candidates will be expected to demonstrate a good knowledge of governance, compliance, finance and of developing and implementing vision and strategy. The role descriptions set out the experience, personal characteristics and time commitment required.

Directors serve three year terms, applications are sought from individual members willing to serve in the above roles until the 2024 AGM.

These voluntary roles are not remunerated, however the SCA does reimburse Directors for agreed out of pocket expenses incurred in the course of their duties.

The best way to find out more about these opportunities is to speak to Stuart Smith, the CEO on 01887 292043 or stuart.smith@canoescotland.org or by contacting any of the current Directors.

Process

The process for Directors to be elected/appointed to the Board is set out in Section 22 of the SCA Articles of Association.  There is an online application form and a link to the online form to register ‘interests’ so that these can be logged and managed according to the SCA Conflicts of Interest Policy.

Once the 30th June closing date has been reached the SCA Appointments Committee will review the applications that have been received and plan to invite candidates to an interview, anticipated to be in July or early August 2021, via online conferencing. The Appointments Committee makes recommendations to the SCA Board at the August Board meeting regarding suitability of candidates for the roles that they have applied for, based on the application forms and interviews. An election will take place at the AGM for the Finance Director and all candidates for this role who have been ratified by the Board will be put forward for a vote by SCA members. The General Director roles are appointed by the Board - the names of those taking up these roles will be announced at the AGM in November.

Further Information and Apply

We aim to make the sport as accessible as possible for everyone and to fulfill our environmental responsibilities whilst striving for excellence in everything we do.

The SCA is passionate about equality and inclusion and welcomes applications from all. We are currently working towards achieving the Advanced Level of the Equality Standard in Sport. Applications are especially welcome from individuals within groups currently under-represented on the SCA Board, such as women, disabled people, those from black and minority ethnic communities and people aged under 50. Pre-COVID, the opportunity to join Directors’s meetings electronically already existed but since March 2020 all Board meetings have taken place online.
